Talents

Today our Sunday School teacher was out so Mark and Amanda Dodd took over our class. We had a discussion about using our talents to God's glorification. They mentioned the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30)and how that was considered money in the Bible times, but now we really mean talent or special gifts that God has given you. They also talked about when you choose a career how it should be one that you love to do therefore you will be the best at it that you can be. We also talked about how it is best to shoot for the moon when it comes to your dreams so we won't settle for mediocrity. That was really a good lesson for me. Even though I have never been accused of having small dreams, I often forget that it is my duty to be the best I can at it. Sometimes during the school year I get tired and find myself giving in to mediocrity when it comes to my grades and such. It reminded me that there is so much more that I can do to make myself the best nurse I can be. Sure, I have huge dreams for myself, but it isn't enough to just aspire for those dreams. I have to work hard to get there! While we were talking I also was reminded how self-discipline is a big part of this. While I do find myself to be self-disciplined in some places, I definitely need to work on becoming better. There is always room for improvement! So we should all strive to be the best person that we can be instead of settling for mediocrity and being risk being a disappointment to God!
